NOTES — Cubs

Some news just breaking right now — Ryan Dempster is headed to the 15-day disabled list with a right toe fracture. That’s all the details I have now.

The move is retroactive to July 3. To replace Dempster on the roster, the Cubs called up right-hander Kevin Hart from Triple-A Iowa.

Carlos Zambrano will start Tuesday in Dempster’s place.

I will update further as soon as I know more.

…………….

UPDATE (7:12 p.m.) From the Trib’s Paul Sullivan:

Dempster said he caught his foot on the dugout railing while jumping out of the dugout running onto the field after Sunday’s win over the Brewers.

“Sweet, huh?” Dempster said.

What happened?

Here’s Dempster’s explanation:

“Sunday after the game I was coming out of the dugout and stepping over the top of the railing there, I was sitting up on the ledge, and I caught my left foot on the rail as I was coming over and it just spun me around and slammed me into the ground. When I did it, I thought I just ripped my nail back on my foot. Unfortuinately, the result wasn’t very funny. If you ask Derrek Lee, he thought it was pretty funny, because the first person I saw when I looked up was D-Lee, and he was laughing. I’m sure it looked hysterical from his angle.”

Bravo, Ryan. Bravo, indeed.
